COLUMBUS, Ohio (News Nation/WCMH) — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Republican governor’s office said he took the test as part of standard protocol before he was to greet President Donald Trump at an airport in Cleveland. He had planned to join the president on a visit to the Whirlpool Corp. plant in northwest Ohio.

DeWine, 73, says he does not have any symptoms of the virus.

“Governor DeWine is returning to Columbus where he and First Lady Fran DeWine, who also has no symptoms, will both be tested,” according to the release.

In exclusive video taken by News Nation affilate WCMH, Dewine arrived at the Governor’s mansion where he said is feeling “good” and the news of his positive COVID-19 is a “big surprise.”

The governor added he was surprised by his positive COVID-19 test because are “we’re not around hardly anybody.”

DeWine’s office says he plans to follow protocol for COVID-19 and quarantine at his home in Cedarville for the next 14 days.

Lt. Governor Jon Husted also took the COVID-19 test today as part of the protocol to greet the president.  He tested negative.

 The President spoke about Dewine on the tarmac of the Cleveland airport.

“A very good friend of mine just tested positive,” said Trump. “Our great governor, Governor of Ohio, DeWine just tested positive, just here. And we want to wish him the best.”

DeWine becomes the second U.S. governor to test positive for coronavirus after Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt announced he contracted the virus last month.
