BOSTON (WPRI) — More than 1,000 hotel workers in Boston are now on the picket lines.

Union members at the Omni Parker House and the Omni Boston Seaport hotels walked off the job on Monday, joining workers who went on strike earlier this month at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza and Hilton at Logan Airport.

They are demanding better wages, benefits, and pensions. Many say they can’t afford to feed their families so they have had to work more than one job.

“Christmas is coming we all have bills, inflation, groceries, things are expensive,” William Brown said. “We’re hoping that the company sees that we are serious, we stepped out, we put our work to the side, we are hoping it comes to a resolution soon.”

The Union said negotiations began in April and by the time their contract expired in August, they couldn’t reach a deal with the hotel chains.

The hotels are still open, but guests may end up with limited service. Management and contract workers are stepping in for striking employees.

Only the Hilton has spoken out, saying they hope they can get a deal done.
