Kate Gosselin protected her kids: Attorney

(NewsNation) —  Collin Gosselin has often accused his mother of abuse during the years that he and his seven siblings were reality TV stars. But Kate Gosselin’s attorney, Richard Puleo, denies that abuse of any sort occurred as Collin was growin gup.

“I believe she was there to protect her kids from what was going on,” Puleo told NewsNation’s “Banfield” on Thursday. “Collin was suffering from some … psychiatric issues. He was not acting normally on many occasions.”

Now 20, Collin Gosselin was one of the eight children in the reality series “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” which documented the lives of Jon and Kate Gosselin, as well as their eight children, sextuplets and twins. After the couple divorced, the show morphed into “Kate plus 8.”

In a recent interview with U.S. Sun, Collin Gosselin said he was always treated differently from his seven other siblings by Kate, and he grew up isolated and alone.

He told the tabloid that he would sometimes have his hands and feet zip-tied and be locked in a specially built basement room that contained only a bed and cameras to watch him for a whole day or part of a day “multiple” times.

Puleo said that would have been impossible, given the constant scrutiny of the TV crews.

“They surely would have investigated anything she did that would have been harmful. There was no intentional harm to prevent him from growing up.”

While not addressing any specific accusation, Puleo emphasized that it was Collin’s troubles that led to his mother’s response.

“Colin was suffering from some difficult things at that time that was harmful, perhaps even scary, to them,” Puleo said. “I think their mother did what normal parents would do under those circumstances.”
