Vodou mystery: Man says mom’s death certificate lacks details

(NewsNation) — A North Carolina woman died while on a Vodou retreat in Haiti, and her son is pleading for a thorough investigation.

Timothy Jackson, Dana Jackson’s son, said he hasn’t received any answers about his mom’s death in two weeks.

“We want to get a private autopsy,” Jackson said Tuesday on “Banfield.” “I have a death certificate. It’s from Haiti, but it doesn’t list what happened. It doesn’t have a cause of death on it.”

Dana Jackson, 51, traveled to Haiti on July 1 with a group that she met through the Vodou community. On July 22, Dana Jackson’s family was told that she had died unexpectedly.

The church released the following statement on behalf of Dana’s death.

“It is with profound sorrow that Sosyete Nago acknowledges the transition of our beloved house member Manbo Dana Jackson in Jacmel, Haiti on Monday, July 22nd, 2024. Her passing shortly after her initiation was a great shock to all, and we uplift her family in prayer so that her soul may be at peace.”
