(NewsNation) — Rideshare company Lyft has announced a new initiative to reward safe driving from its employees.

In a press release Tuesday, Lyft revealed its “preferred drivers” program, where drivers with a higher safe-driving score will receive more ride offers, and higher pay if the trip extends five minutes beyond the estimated time.

Drivers will be able to see the estimated dollar-per-hour earnings for each ride up front.

“Understanding your earnings shouldn’t feel like navigating a labyrinth, and today’s updates help drivers make better decisions, stress less about math, and feel confident that their time is valued fairly,” Jeremy Bird, Lyft’s EVP of Driver Experience said in the release.

In addition, free courses will be offered to drivers in a partnership with Merit America, while affordable health care insurance will be more searchable through a deal with Stride Health.

It follows a $175 million settlement agreement from Lyft and Uber to offer a minimum wage, paid sick leave, and other benefits in Massachusetts.
