(WGN Radio) – Artificial intelligence has many uses big and small, including – apparently – saving you some cash. ChatGPT, the AI-powered chat bot, can help you negotiate your bills down, says Dashia Milden, staff editor of CNET Money.
In an interview with WGN Radio, Milden gave the example of a phone bill. “You’ll basically just go into ChatGPT, type in something along the lines of ‘how to negotiate my AT&T bill.’ I actually just did this a few minutes ago, and it gave me a really easy, simple walkthrough of reviewing my account, going through and seeing if I can call customer service, where exactly I can find that phone number,” Milden said.
ChatGPT can suggest specific language you can use while talking to customer service, giving you a script so you walk into the conversation feeling prepared. It can give you information on the competitors so you have leverage in the negotiation, and suggests how and when to escalate the conversation to another representative.
“It even points out, in a really conversational way, that I can point out I’m a longtime customer and my account is in good standing,” Milden said.
Another CNET reporter asked ChatGPT for help getting bank fees waived and negotiating her internet bill down. After suggesting some strategies of what to look for, the chat bot was able to write her scripts she could send to a customer service representative.

It’s not just cutting costs. ChatGPT can also help you get paid more by coaching you through a salary negotiation, Forbes writes.
It isn’t magic, Milden said. ChatGPT is just pulling information that already exists on the internet, and compiling it into one easy place. But remember, she said, that ChatGPT isn’t all-knowing and you should still use your common sense and best judgment before doing what it says.
