Woman dies after attack on Tennessee greenway

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) β€” A woman was killed after an attack on a Nashville greenway Monday evening.

The attack happened around 5:30 p.m. on the Mill Creek Greenway off Old Hickory Boulevard in Antioch. A 34-year-old Nashville woman suffered from a gunshot wound and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.

Authorities on the scene told NewsNation affiliate WKRN that at the time, no suspects have been taken into custody and that they are still speaking with witnesses.

At 8:50 p.m., the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) posted to X that a homicide investigation was underway and β€œthe suspect is possibly an Asian man who fled in a dark colored sedan.”

At 9 p.m., the MNPD held a briefing about the shooting. A spokesperson for the department said that multiple calls came in about the incident and that witnesses reported seeing a man on top of the woman before shots were fired. The spokesperson added that the sedan has four doors.

Witnesses reported that the shooting happened on the greenway. The woman was reportedly in the wood-line right off the trail and efforts are underway to find her family. A spokesperson for the MNPD added that a helicopter has been used to search for evidence.
