(NewsNation) —Police have arrested one of two suspects they say were seen in security footage brazenly carjacking a Mississippi family on their driveway with a gun.
Authorities in Jackson said one of the suspects was brought to them by his parents who saw video of the armed carjacking on local media.
Security camera footage of the carjacking shows two suspects approaching a family as they get into their car outside their home Friday.
One of the men fires a shot, which startles Heather Allen, one of the victims, and her son who were outside of the car.
“They kind of do a U-turn, come walking up. You know, they say something, and I can’t recall what they say, but they start shooting at me. And my son is on the outside of the car, and they’re like, ‘Give, give me the keys. Give me the keys.’ And they yanked and pulled my daughter out of the car. And I stood up, and I saw them,” Allen told NewsNation affiliate WJTV.
Allen’s other son, daughter and two young grandchildren were seated inside the car, she said.
The video shows the others coming out of the car as the suspects try to get in, and her daughter is heard yelling, “My babies, my babies are in the car!”
The family safely leaves the car and walks back to the house, but Allen told WJTV one of the carjackers kept yelling for keys to the car. When they couldn’t figure out how to take the first car, Allen is seen throwing keys to another car, which the suspects drove off in.
Allen told WJTV that the Jackson Police Department was able to track down her car about two blocks away and only 40 minutes after the armed carjacking took place.
Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade confirmed investigators had identified two persons of interest in relation to the carjacking, according to WAPT-TV.
“I had an opportunity to look at the video of Ms. Allen and her family being robbed and carjacked in their driveway,” Wade said. “It was extremely disturbing to me. It was very concerning to me because a threat to them and their family is a threat to everyone.”
The suspect who was brought in was charged with armed carjacking and six counts of aggravated assault. Police are still searching for the second suspect.
The family told WAPT that they lived in the area for about three months and are now making plans to move out of Jackson.
“We can’t stay here anymore,” Allen said.
