DES MOINES, Iowa — Police have released the name of a 19-year-old who died after being stabbed Tuesday and the name of his 16-year-old brother, who has been charged with murder in the case.
Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Department said Abdelmagid Elzubeir was the victim of the stabbing.
Officers were called to 926 Oakridge Drive around 10:15 a.m. on a report of a stabbing. When they arrived they found Abdelmagid had been stabbed in the neck. Lifesaving treatment was provided at the scene and he was transported to UnityPoint Methodist Medical Center, but he later died.
Sgt. Parizek said the investigation determined the stabbing was premeditated and the result of a dispute between Abdelmagid and his brother Mohamed Elzubeir. Mohamed is now charged with first-degree murder.
Because the offense is a forcible felony, the case is automatically waived to adult court.
Mohamed Elzubeir made his first appearance in court Wednesday morning. While he remains a minor, he will be held in juvenile facilities throughout the judicial process.
If found guilty, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
