Killer in Vegas law office shooting had ‘specific targets’: Police

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Three people are dead following a shooting Monday morning at a law office in Las Vegas, according to officials.

Police said a man in his 70s opened fire around 10 a.m. during a deposition hearing in a child custody case at the law office in Summerlin, an affluent neighborhood of Las Vegas.

The man killed himself after shooting across the table and killing a man in his 50s and a woman in her 30s, Las Vegas police homicide Lt. Jason Johansson said at a news conference.

Johansson said the shooting in the mid-rise office building happened several minutes after the hearing began Monday morning.

“It appears our two victims were very specific targets,” Johansson said.

Seven people were in the room at the time of the shooting, Johansson said. The four others, including a court reporter, were able to quickly escape and call police, he said, and the children at the center of the custody case were accounted for and safe.

Investigators searched the shooter’s vehicle, a red Ford Expedition, outside the office building after the shooting, Johansson said. He didn’t say what was found inside.

“With profound sadness, Prince Law Group would like to thank everyone who has reached out to us with heartfelt messages of concern and sympathy over the tragic violence that occurred this morning in our offices,” the law group said in a statement .

Johansson did not identify the victims or shooter by name but said the shooting happened in suite No. 560, the address of Las Vegas attorney Dennis Prince’s law office, Prince Law Group.

Sources, however, told NewsNation affiliate KLAS that the victims are Las Vegas attorney Dennis Prince and his wife, Ashley Prince.

Prince’s former law partner, Robert Eglet, described Prince as a wonderful father to four children. He said his death was “not just a loss to his family, but also to the community.”

“We are deeply saddened by the devastating news of the passing of Dennis Prince, a distinguished attorney who was regarded as one of the finest in our state,” Prince’s friend Tom Letizia, a political consultant, said. “Dennis was not only a close friend of mine but also a respected figure within our legal community, whose absence has left us all in mourning. The news of this tragedy has profoundly shocked me and our entire community.”

Summerlin spans roughly 13 miles along the city’s western edge, about 30 minutes west of the Las Vegas Strip.
