Mom arrested after child hands police bag of drugs

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A Henderson Police Department body camera video in Nevada showed a 9-year-old boy handing officers a bag of drugs that he said he found under his mother’s nightstand.

It happened in the Inspirada neighborhood in July 2022. The child found the drugs, locked himself in a bathroom, and called his father with an iPad, according to body camera video.

The boy’s mother, identified as Kendra Long, was arrested later that night.

“I just saw a couple of bags, pulled it out, and then that’s when I knew what it was,” the child said.

Police determined that there were more than 100 grams of methamphetamine in the bag.
Long denied having any knowledge about the drugs while officers tried comforting her son.

Police arrested Long for drug trafficking and child abuse. She posted $25,000 that same day, according to court records. Long then violated a family court order and other rules specified as a condition of her release, prosecutors said.

Long’s criminal proceedings occurred in multiple courts including Henderson Justice Court, Las Vegas Justice Court, and Clark County District Court.

Prosecutors said they found text messages showing that Long was dealing drugs from her home while her son was present.

She was sentenced to probation, which prosecutors said she violated. She was also sent to an in-patient drug treatment program.

NewsNation affiliate KLAS News reached out to an attorney representing Long to get her side of the story. During a phone call, he hung up.

The boy was picked up from the home by his father on the night of Long’s arrest and is currently living with him.
