Cenk Uygur: Pro-Palestinian protesting ‘aggravates people’

(NewsNation) —  When it comes to demonstrations supporting the Palestinians in the war with Israel, Cenk Uygur wants to make his position clear:

“There’s a difference between strategy and tactics.”

The strategy, he says, is to end violence, and “I love them for going out there and trying to do whatever they can to try and stop this war,” he told NewsNation’s “Dan Abrams Live” on Thursday.

But he’s not happy with the tactics of some protesters who aggravate the very people they’re trying to convince. The prime example: the recent protests that blocked traffic on freeways, major bridges and elsewhere in cities coast to coast.

“I know it aggravates people. It brings attention to your cause, but sometimes does it in a way that alienates the people in that city.”

The host of the long-running TV, radio and streaming political show “The Young Turks” favors a more focused protest.

“I would definitely protest around defense contractor buildings, AIPAC, and Christians United for Israel,” which he calls a “Christian Zionist group” that drives a war agenda.

Uygur agreed with host Dan Abrams when he showed video from Thursday’s protests at New York’s Columbia University of someone burning an American flag, calling that counter-productive.

“I’m always surprised by people who make silly mistakes. If you love America, you want America to be on the side of the better angels and help the Palestinians not get slaughtered. That’s not going to help your cause to say ‘death to America.’”
