Thousands of country music fans were awaiting the singer when he suddenly canceled his performance Sunday night, April 23, 2023, at Vaught Hemingway Stadium. WTVA-TV reported that video boards inside the Ole Miss football stadium showed a message that said the singer had lost his voice and was unable to perform, adding that people would be refunded their money where they bought their tickets. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Fresh off of a record-setting concert weekend at Neyland Stadium, East Tennessee native Morgan Wallen is giving a half million dollars towards relief efforts after Hurricane Helene.

Officials from the Red Cross confirmed they received $500,000 from the Morgan Wallen Foundation.

“We can’t thank Morgan Wallen enough for his heart and generous $500,000 donation to impact help on the ground now in the areas affected by Hurricane Helene, including his beloved East Tennessee,” Red Cross’ National President for Humanitarian Services, Trevor Riggin, said in a statement.

The country music star was born in Sneedville and moved to Knox County where he played baseball at Gibbs High School. Ahead of his two Neyland Stadium concerts, his foundation donated $140,000 donation to Gibbs Youth Sports to renovate Gibbs Ruritan Park.

In 2023, Wallen donated $35,000 to Gibbs High School for their baseball and music programs. He also performed a free concert at the school.
