EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (NewsNation Now) — Mattel is honoring multiple Grammy-winning music icon Elton John by releasing a special edition Barbie inspired by the Rocketman star’s style.
“Barbie is an icon in her own right, so having her pay tribute to my work and personal style is a real honour. I hope that she inspires fans everywhere to fearlessly pursue their own dreams and limitless potential,” said John on Twitter.
The Elton John Barbie Doll retails for $50. Mattel said the release commemorates the 45th anniversary of his two sold-out shows at LA’s Dodger Stadium.
Over 100,000 people attended the October 25 and 26 shows in 1975 which cemented the career of John as a superstar and was the largest concert ever done by a single artist at that time, according to his website.
The collaborative Barbie dons a glittery top and flared denim jeans embellished with John’s initials. Her “Elton”-lettered bomber jacket also features star-printed sleeves with rainbow-stripe accents at the collar, hem and cuffs. The ensemble also includes “colorful nods to the artist’s iconic style include rainbow-striped platform boots, a purple bowler hat, and sparkly, pink-tinted sunglasses” described the news release.
