Rapper Rich Homie Quan dead at 34: Reports

(KTLA/NEXSTAR) — Rapper Rich Homie Quan has died at the age of 34, as confirmed by both Rolling Stone and TMZ. A cause of death has not yet been released.

Quan rose to prominence with hits like “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).” He also had success with fellow Atlanta rapper Young Thug as part of Rich Gang, best known for the platinum-selling “Lifestyle.”

Word began to spread about the death of Quan — whose name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar — on social media Thursday morning.

“JUST TALKED TO YOU BRA,” Boosie wrote. “Never go forget yo smile n the way talked n of course yo music.”

Hip-hop personality Adam22 of No Jumper also posted a tribute to social media, a photo of Quan that was simply captioned “RIP Rich Homie Quan.”

TMZ reports that Quan was found in his Atlanta home on Thursday, though it could not confirm a cause of death.

Quan’s debut (and only) album, “Rich as in Spirit” was released in 2018, charting at no. 32 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was well-reviewed, earning a score of 7.7 in a Pitchfork review. During his career, Quan was nominated for two BET Hip-Hop Awards and an iHeartRadio Music Award for Hip-Hop Song of the Year for “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).”

On Thursday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner said in a statement that an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
