CHICAGO (NewsNation) — Typically, dogs don’t adore mail carriers. But in one case, it’s a love story for the ages.
A 4-pound Chihuahua named Frannie Joy and postman Dan Larsen have created an unbreakable friendship that’s winning hearts all over the internet.
Every Monday through Saturday, Frannie Joy can be found waiting at her family’s front door to greet Larsen as he makes his daily rounds.
Frannie Joy’s owner, Lisa Laskey, has captured interactions between the two, garnering millions of views online.
Larsen, Laskey and Frannie Joy stopped by the “Morning in America” studio Thursday to share their story with NewsNation’s Markie Martin.
Frannie Joy first met Larsen in 2021, shortly after she was adopted by Laskey and her husband. A day or two after Frannie Joy was taken home, Laskey said it was mail day and heard the truck driving by. She decided to walk out and grab the mail directly from Larsen.
Though she didn’t know Larsen too well at the time, Laskey asked the mailman if he wanted to meet the newest member of their family. He said yes and turned his truck off, and Laskey handed Frannie Joy to him.
“She started licking his face and pawing at his face like she knew him for years and years and years,” Laskey said. “She was already in love with him.”
Larsen recalled that at their first meeting, Frannie Joy was the size of a potato. For the next few encounters, Frannie Joy was on a long leash so that she could run straight to Larsen but not run off too far or get lost.
“She ran straight to me, I picked her up and every day after that, she just runs a straight line to my truck,” Larsen said.
Laskey said the relationship between the two means everything to her because all she has ever wanted to do is infuse a little bit more love and joy into the world. She felt by sharing Frannie Joy with the world, she was able to fulfill that goal.
“I knew Dwayne and Lisa were special because in their yard, they had a sign that says, ‘Change the world.’ And I honestly believe, now that this has been going on for over two and a half years, and the outpouring of love that, I think she is really changing the world,” Larsen said.
