Wife spots husband in selfie she two took years before they met

(NewsNation) — A Malaysia-born content creator has gone viral after spotting her husband in the background of a selfie she took years before they met, in a coincidence that completely shocked her.

Jenn Chia was stunned to discover her husband, Jon Liddell, in the photo taken in Oct. 2012, about 11 years before they were married.

“I’m still shaking looking at this,” Chia wrote on Instagram as a caption of the photo that showed her at a theater café holding a glass.

Behind her, you see a bearded man casually standing with a backpack. That man was Liddell. Both were completely oblivious to their future significant others.

Chia said she was deleting old pictures off Instagram when she came across the photo.

“There’s a really familiar human right behind me. At that moment, I realized, no, it is you, and then I remembered he was in the kitchen. And I screamed your name,” Chia said.

Liddell added: “She freaked out like, is this you? Is this you? Is this you? And I said, ‘Oh my God, it’s me, where’s this photo from?’ And it was from two years before we actually met. So, we were kind of freaking out that this had just happened.”

Chia said they were at an open mic night on the day the photo was taken. At the time, Liddell, who is from the United Kingdom, was based in England. However, he just so happened to be in Malaysia that night.

“It’s just that photo being captured, it’s so bizarre,” Chia said.

The couple, who are both musicians, said music brought them together. They met at a music festival after that photo. They added that they’ve collaborated on several songs together since they met.

“We have a few songs that we’ve written for each other,” Liddell said. “We’ve done a bunch of music projects together; those are all on Spotify. There’s a whole journey of music that has been shared since then.”

The couple got married in August 2023.
