(NewsNation) — The latest TikTok trend involves young men chewing extra-hard gum to achieve a more chiseled jawline. However, doctors and dentists are warning against it.

Health experts caution that this new facial fitness craze could be harmful as more videos of young men chewing rock-hard gum are circulating online, aiming to achieve the perfect chiseled jawline.

Advertisers claim that the extra force from chewing works out the muscles that run from the cheekbone to the lower jawbone.

Jawliner, a popular hard-chewing gum, claims its product is backed by science.

On its website, the company touts the jaw-dropping transformations for its clients in about six weeks and offers trainers. They also state that thousands of customers have achieved their dream jawlines.

NewsNation reached out to the company for comment but has not received a response.

What are health officials saying about the gun chewing trend?

The American Dental Association urges the public to be cautious of viral trends like using gum to shape your jawline, as they’re “rarely backed by scientific evidence and can range from ineffective to harmful when it comes to oral health.”

Health experts warn that constantly chewing hard gum can damage your teeth and eventually cause them to break more easily.

There’s also concern about potential joint damage in the lower jaw, which could lead to jaw pain, headaches, and even a clicking or popping sound or lock jaw.
