BETHANY, Okla. (KFOR) – In 2014, a photo of three young cancer survivors went viral on social media. Now, we’re seeing them 10 years later.
16-year-old Rheann Franklin, 15-year-old Ainsley Peters and 13-year-old Rylie Hughey first went viral in 2014 when a photo was taken of all three of them by Scantling Photography. A year after that, a recreation of the photo was taken to celebrate their remission.
Now, the girls are posing again 10 years later.
“We finally did an updated portrait for the”10 years later” and I am getting so many messages from people all over saying how excited they are to finally see an update and they have been wondering how the girls have been doing!” said Lora Scantling with Scantling Photography.
According to Scantling, Franklin has been fighting cancer, and the effects of it, for 12 years. Due to the tumors on her brain stem and treatments, she now uses a service dog to help with everyday needs. She has also developed Alopecia, Scoliosis, growth hormone deficiency, cognitive disabilities, fully dilated pupils and no depth perception.

At 16, Franklin has a sweet and loving personality and is described as social and friendly. She loves to bowl and play cornhole. As a matter of fact, she won a Silver for bowling in the Special Olympics finals in January and Bronze for cornhole in the Special Olympics summer games.
Peters has been in remission for 10 year from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia precursor B. The chemo and spinal taps have caused her C-PTSD, but she is working on navigating the tough days.
At 15, she loves to sing and act. She loves being on stage and has gotten superior ratings for her solo at competition. She plans to study radiology and psychology so she can help children and teens in the future.
Hughey is a Stage 5 Wilms Tumor Cancer survivor. 2024 marks 10 years she has been cancer free, but she still deals with some effects from the chemo. She now has a liver disorder and is being monitored in case long term issues arise.
At 13, she’s very active in Jr. high softball, travel softball, Jr. high basketball, Jr. high pom, student council and Gifted and Talented. Next year, she’s looking to add track and power lifting.
