BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Walmart Health has announced its plans to close all its locations and virtual care, according to a news release.
The retail giant launched the health centers in 2019 but said on Tuesday that it learned through managing them “there is not a sustainable business model for us to continue.”
Walmart had 51 health centers in five states and said the decision to shutter them, as well as Walmart Health Virtual Care, was not easy.
“This is a difficult decision, and like others, the challenging reimbursement environment and escalating operating costs create a lack of profitability that make the care business unsustainable for us at this time,” Walmart said.
The table below shows where Walmart Health Centers are available, according to Walmart’s website:
State | Locations |
---|---|
Arkansas | Fort Smith Rogers Springdale |
Florida | Brandon Hudson Jacksonville (5 locations) Kissimmee (2 locations) Lutz Middleburg New Port Richey Ocoee Orlando (3 locations) Pinellas Park Plant City Sanford St. Petersburg Wesley Chapel Winter Garden Zephyrhills |
Georgia | Calhoun Carrollton Cartersville Columbus Conyers Dallas Dalton Fayetteville Loganville Macon Marietta Mcdonough Monroe Newnan Rome Suwanee Woodstock |
Illinois | Chicago |
Texas | Garland Palestine Pearland Royse City Sugar Land Tomball Tyler |
The company did not announce specific dates for the centers’ closures but said it will share the information when it becomes available. Walmart said employees with the health centers will be eligible to transfer to any other Sam’s Club or Walmart location.
