AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two Austin residents were booked into the Travis County jail Tuesday on charges in connection with a missing 16-year-old girl out of Wichita, Kansas.
According to Travis County court documents, 35-year-old Christopher Douglas Mitchell and 62-year-old Judy Myers, Mitchell’s mother, both face charges in connection with the investigation.
Mitchell was charged with trafficking a child, sexual assault child rape and unlawful restraint, while Myers faces a charge of interference with child custody.
KXAN reached out to the attorneys of both Mitchell and Myers. This story will be updated if a response is received.
According to court records, the victim had run away from a child and family care facility in Kansas on Jan. 14. Before leaving, the victim took approximately $200 from her job and then left her cellphone at the facility.
Officials used surveillance videos to determine that the victim got into a vehicle belonging to Myers, which Mitchell later admitted to driving. The vehicle was then tracked using license plate reader cameras driving from Kansas to Austin, Texas, arriving Jan. 15, records said.
Documents said Myers also told detectives she knew that the victim was a ward of the State of Kansas and that she had planned to petition that state for guardianship of the victim.
According to jail records, Mitchell is held on bonds totaling $207,500, and Myers has a bond of $100,000.
