On Balance: Apple to tap your iPhone, FL Gov. rejecting mandates and a Newsom recall poll

(NewsNation Now) — Apple’s plan to scan iPhone images is raising fears over bulk surveillance. The company announced it intends to install software on iPhones sold in the United States to scan for child abuse imagery. Liberty Vittert, a professor of data science at Washington University in St. Louis and the features editor of the Harvard Data Science Review, joins On Balance to discuss the security concerns. Her research centers around facial shape analysis and recognition software, the exact type of algorithm that Apple will use for their new technology.

And Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says no to mask mandates, vaccine passports and just about any government intervention on COVID-19. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez discusses the economic impact.

Plus, new polling shows more than half of Californians are in favor of recalling Gov. Gavin Newsom.
