(NewsNation) — Though Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro‘s net worth is not publicly known, it’s estimated to be smaller than other politicians.

What’s Josh Shapiro’s net worth?

As Pennsylvania’s governor, Shapiro made roughly $230,000 in 2023, according to Pennsylvania’s Office of the Budget. That position is also currently listed as his only source of income.

Shapiro’s 2023 statement of financial interest shows he has no real estate interests and no financial interests in any for-profit businesses, according to FinBold reporting.

Previously, he likely earned around $98,200 as Montgomery County commissioner and $197,748 as Pennsylvania attorney general. He also worked at private law firm Stradley, Ronon, Stevens, and Young from 2006 to 2017, though it’s unknown what his salary was in that position.

His wife, Lori Shapiro, previously worked in the White House under the Clinton administration as an analyst in the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

She currently serves as Honorary Chair of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and sits on the board of the Philadelphia Art Museum, according to her bio on Pennsylvania’s official website. Salary estimates are not publicly available for either position.

The couple and their four children live in the Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence, a 29,000-square-foot Georgian-style home that recently underwent nearly $2 million in renovations.

There’s no clear estimate for the Pennsylvania governor’s net worth available due to Pennsylvania’s disclosure policies, though some sites claim it’s worth anywhere from $5 to $7 million.

How does Shapiro compare to other candidates?

Shapiro’s estimated net worth is likely below all 2024 presidential election candidates, notably the Republican tickets’ Ohio Sen. JD Vance and former President Donald Trump. Vance is worth an estimated $5 to 10 million, while Trump’s fortune is estimated at $7.67 billion.

However, Trump’s net worth has grown by at least $1 billion since the assassination attempt on the former president took place at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, Forbes reported.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ worth is estimated at $8 million, while her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, is reportedly worth between $112,003 and $330,000.

The other candidates have portfolios that include varied sources of wealth, including money from book deals and speaking engagements, business investments, real estate, stock holdings, crypto and financial securities.

Shapiro’s political path

Shapiro began his political career when elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2005, flipping the 153rd Legislative District blue for the first time in two decades.

In 2017, he became the state’s attorney general following the arrest of his predecessor, Kathleen Kane.

During his six years serving as the Pennsylvania attorney general, Shapiro exposed the cover-up of child sexual abuse by the Catholic Church and led efforts to crack down on the opioid epidemic and gun violence in the state.

In 2023, he was elected governor after campaigning as the champion of the vulnerable, willing to “take on the big fights.” He won the crucial election over his Republican opponent, Doug Mastriano.

Since taking office, Shapiro has had to contend with a Republican-led state Senate and an evenly divided House. He is currently locked in a contentious fight over the state budget after it failed to pass before the deadline.
