Results: Biden and Trump win Tennessee primary, DDHQ projects

(NewsNation) — Decision Desk HQ projects Democratic incumbent President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump the winners of their respective primaries in Tennessee.

Voters in Tennessee headed to the polls for Super Tuesday to pick their preferred Democratic and Republican presidential nominations for the general election in November.

Republicans will choose between front-runner Trump and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. Trump currently has 221 delegates, while Haley has snagged just 43.

Meanwhile, Biden doesn’t face any viable opponent but rather the “uncommitted” vote, which made up about 14% of the ballots cast in Michigan. This protest vote against Biden shows the growing frustration within his own party over his response to the Israel-Hamas war.

Polls in Tennessee close at 8 p.m. ET. You can track the results of Tuesday’s primary elections in the maps below as they come in:

Both Republicans and Democrats will have Super Tuesday elections in 15 states with 865 and 1,420 delegates up for grabs, respectively. In order to win the Republican nomination, Trump needs 1,215 delegates of the 2,429 available. Track each candidate’s delegates as they are awarded here.

At a local level, Tennessee is also holding congressional elections in 2024 with just one statewide contest for a U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn. Blackburn is seeking a second term, while Democratic state Rep. Gloria Johnson looks to secure the Democratic nomination.
