RFK Jr.’s wife, Cheryl Hines, disapproved of Trump endorsement

Actress Cheryl Hines (R) and her husband, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., greet supporters during a campaign event

(NewsNation) — Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s wife, Cheryl Hines, is not in lockstep with her husband over his latest political move.

Kennedy will join NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on Tuesday at  8 p.m./7C  for his first prime-time interview since suspending his 2024 presidential campaign.

Speaking to TMZ, Kennedy said that while Hines encouraged her husband to speak to Trump following the attempted assassination, she didn’t encourage Kennedy’s endorsement.

“This is really difficult for Cheryl,” Kennedy said. “This is the opposite of what she would want to do. She went along with it because she loves me and she wanted to be supportive of me, but it was not something that she ever encouraged.

“I would say, her trepidation about this and her discomfort with this, were the dominant feelings.”

Kennedy suspended his campaign and endorsed the Republican nominee on Aug. 23 and as expected, faced criticism, along with his wife. However, Kennedy confirmed to TMZ that Hines is not a fan of Trump.

Unlike his family, Kennedy’s wife has remained supportive of her husband.

“She’s a lifelong Democrat and the idea of me supporting Donald Trump as president was, like I said, something she would have never imagined, that she never wanted in her life, that I think causes her a lot of discomfort,” he added.

“I’m very grateful to her for giving me personal support, but she was not somebody who was clamoring for this move. I would say the opposite is true.”
