(NewsNation) — Former President Donald Trump has ramped up his attacks against Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, sharpening his criticism and going after her supporters as he pressures her to drop out of the race.
In a new post on Truth Social, Trump said, “Anybody that makes a ‘contribution’ to birdbrain” – his nickname for the former UN Ambassador and South Carolina governor – “from this moment forth, will be permanently barred from the MAGA camp. We don’t want them, and will not accept them.”
The former president isn’t happy Haley is staying in the race despite her performance in New Hampshire.
She almost immediately responded on X, saying, “Well in that case… donate here,” adding a link to her fundraising website.
Haley had said the race for the White House is far from over. Her campaign also announced that in the 24 hours after the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday, Haley raised $1 million from 200,000 donors.
She told supporters in North Charleston last night that she’s not dropping out after only two states and added to her speech some new sharp lines about her former boss and now rival.
“Donald Trump got out there and just threw a temper tantrum,” Haley said. “Out of everything that he said in his rant, he didn’t talk about the American people once. He talked about revenge. Get on a debate stage and let’s go. Bring it, Donald. Show me what you got.”
After losses in Iowa and New Hampshire, however, some have questioned how Haley will continue her campaign financially.
Reports say billionaire Reid Hoffman does not plan to give Haley’s campaign any more money.
Another prominent Haley-backer told NewsNation that some donors don’t see a path forward for her at this point.
Those conversations with donors will be critical as Haley focuses her campaign now in her home state of South Carolina.
The former president is leading in polls there by double digits.
