(NewsNation) — An aide for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ campaign tells NewsNation they are open to another debate with her Republican opponent Donald Trump — as long as he goes to one being hosted next month by ABC News.
“We’ll continue those conversations,” the aide said in a statement. “But to be clear, any additional debate would be subject to Trump actually showing up on Sept. 10. We’re not playing his games.”
ABC News announced Thursday said Trump and Harris agreed to meet in a debate on Sept. 10. Earlier that day, the former president said at a news conference he agreed to three debates with Harris on separate networks.
“I think it’s very important to have debates,” Trump said Thursday. “I look forward to the debates because I think we have to set the record straight.”
Meanwhile, Harris wrote on X that she “look(s) forward” to the Sept. 10 debate. This comes after Trump previously said he would not attend and instead teased a separate Sept. 4 debate proposed by Fox News. NBC News wants to have one on Sept. 25 as well.
The Harris campaign accused Trump of “running scared,” saying, “The Vice President will be there one way or the other to take the opportunity to speak to a prime-time national audience.”
