The crowd at the Democratic National Convention chanted “lock him up” during former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s remarks on Monday night — turning the tables on “lock her up” chants that were prevalent at former President Trump’s campaign events in 2016.

Clinton used a portion of her speech to refer to Trump’s 34 felony convictions earlier this year, prompting the crowd to chant “lock him up” inside a packed United Center in Chicago.

Trump supporters had frequently chanted “lock her up” in reference to Clinton when she ran against the former president, who often painted her as a criminal following an investigation into her use of a private email server while serving as Secretary.

“As a prosecutor, Kamala locked up murderers and drug traffickers. She will never rest in defense of our freedom and safety,” Clinton said. “Donald Trump fell asleep at his own trial and when he woke up, he made his own kind of history—the first person to run for president with 34 felony convictions.”

“Lock him up,” the crowd cheered in response .

Members of the crowd were spotted chanting along and smiling and laughing and Clinton waited several seconds before starting her remarks again.

Clinton, who lost to Trump in 2016, also called out her former political rival for mocking Vice President Harris’s name and laugh.

“Sounds familiar,” she said.

Throughout her remarks, Clinton praised Harris and President Biden, acknowledging a renewed energy among Democrats but warned that the party can’t let up despite polls showing Harris closing gaps on Trump.
