2022 General Embeds

A note about early polls from NewsNation’s top pollster

The only thing we know about polling is it’s always wrong. The only question is by how much is it wrong. It looks like if there’s a polling error it looks it could move some races into the surprise column.

– Scott Tranter, advisor for Decision Desk HQ on NewsNation’s Rush Hour

A great reminder that voters and not polls decide races. Decision Desk HQ is responsible for calling the projected winners for NewsNation tonight, and has been used for all of our polls throughout 2022.

Voting will take longer in Pennsylvania

A series of delays will slow voting counting and extend election-day voting hours in Pennsylvania.

A paper shortage is extending voting in one Pennsylvania county, according to NewsNation’s sister site The Hill. Polls won’t officially close in the Keystone state until 10 p.m. because of the paper shortage in Luzerne County.

This is added to a series of disruptions around Philadelphia. There are reports of wrong paper sizes and broken voting machines, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Pennsylvania is home to multiple high-profile races: Democrat John Fetterman v. Republican Mehmet Oz for U.S. Senate and Republican Doug Mastriano and Democrat Josh Shapiro for Governor.

Fetterman’s campaign sued state elections officials Monday asking a federal judge to order that all mail ballots be counted regardless of what date, if any, voters wrote on the outside of the envelope, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Story of the Moment: Trump Talks DeSantis

Here is some election-day news related to this election – and the one two years from now. NewsNation got an exclusive interview with former President Donald Trump, who shared his feelings on Gov. Ron DeSantis, midterms, election integrity and other topics.

Short version: if it wasn’t for Trump there wouldn’t be a DeSantis.

The whole interview will air at 6 p.m. Eastern tonight on NewsNation (find out how to watch NewsNation here). But here’s an excerpt with Trump sharing his view on making DeSantis what he is today.

How does this relate the 2024 presidential election? A recent ABC News/Ipsos poll published last month found that DeSantis topped Trump when GOP voters were asked who they trust to guide the party into the future.
