Rep. Greg Murphy, R-N.C., suggested in a Thursday interview that President Joe Biden “must’ve been jacked up” during his State of the Union address, pointing to the president’s energetic performance.
Murphy, co-chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus, said in an interview with Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo that his assessment is “from a medical viewpoint” and that he has evidence substantiating his claim — a point that provoked some questions from the media pundit.
“I was in the State of the Union address and Joe Biden must have been jacked up on something that day. I absolutely believe that from a medical viewpoint and actually have a little bit of good knowledge that happened,” Murphy told Bartiromo. “He can’t stand, and he can’t stand under the lights for that long, and I don’t think he can keep a concept in his brain that long.”
Murphy did not elaborate in the interview on the evidence and proceeded to give advice about the recently announced presidential debates. The Hill has reached out to Murphy’s office for further comment.
Bartiromo circled back to his claim in her follow-up question.
“What do you mean when you say he was jacked up at the State of the Union?” Bartiromo asked.
“I believe they gave him something to help him sustain the lights and sustain the vigor that he had,” Murphy responded. “That’s not, that was not Joe Biden. I was in there. He screamed for two hours. He screamed for two hours. And you know, maybe we can talk offline, and I’ll show you something that I think that proves that.”
“What, you’ll show me what?” Bartiromo asked.
“I think I can have some evidence that shows that he was given something before then.”
Bartiromo appeared surprised by his suggestion, saying, “OK, in terms of a medicine?”
Murphy responded by suggesting Biden had gotten a facelift and repeating a frequent refrain that Biden was “pupeteered by the Democratic Party to be president,” adding, “I fully believe that has something to do with pharmacology.”
The Hill has also reached out to the Biden campaign for a response.
Murphy’s remarks echo a common response from conservatives following Biden’s State of the Union address.
Former President Donald Trump, following the speech, suggested in a radio interview that Biden was “all jacked up” at the start of the speech and “higher than a kite.”
