CHICAGO (NewsNation Now) — Large gatherings and traveling are discouraged this holiday season, but American Airlines says it expects a spike in travelers and wants passengers to know what is being done onboard to keep them safe.
The airline’s cleaning crew is wiping down surface areas like tray tables and seat belts after each flight. Crews now spend 20 minutes working before new passengers board — that’s quadruple the time spent cleaning prior to the pandemic.
Every four days, an electrostatic foggers are used to spray disinfectant. The airline says the disinfectant can be effective for up to a week.
“The electrostatic foggers get into the nooks and crannies,” Steven Shatsky, Jetstream Ground Services said. “It’s an added layer of protection on top of what we’re doing onboard the aircraft.”
American Airline is expecting an average of 4,000 flights per day during the Thanksgiving holiday, that’s 2200 fewer than the same time last year.
