MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis family is praying for hope after a multi-car accident in Midtown left a young father with the possibility that both of his legs could be amputated.
“He’s a single dad just going to pick his son up from school and it just happened out of the blue. It was so unexpected,” Tenisha Holmes said.
Last Friday, a two-vehicle crash at Union Avenue and East Parkway South in Midtown changed the life of Justin Holmes forever.
An accident caused a car to hit Holmes, who was walking on the overpass where Union crosses over East Parkway to pick up his son from Idlewild Elementary, his sister says.
“Someone ran the light causing multiple cars to hit and they ended up hitting him, throwing him onto the Parkway over the bridge,” Tenisha Holmes said. “Once he went over the bridge he busted both of his legs wide open.”
His sister, Tenisha, who was too emotional to go on camera, reached out to WREG for help.
“It’s very devastating. The tears cannot stop,” Holmes said. “I haven’t slept since Friday and mom is the same, and we’re just trying to figure this all out.”
Tenisha tells WREG that her brother faces the likelihood of having at least one of his legs amputated.
“They’re trying to save his left leg, but the right leg is definitely a go for an amputation,” Holmes said. “It’s a lot to take in. He’s incredibly upset.”
His family is hoping someone speaks out about what they witnessed.
“We’re just trying to find [out] if anyone knows anything, we’d be greatly appreciated to that,” Holmes said. “We don’t have any type of leads or anything. No witnesses or anything. So, we need all the help that we can get.”
Help that’s turning into prayer for Justin Holmes, a loving father, son and brother.
“I pray and ask God to please give us strength and help us emotionally so we can just get through this,” Holmes said.
Memphis Police say two other people, an adult and child, were also injured. Their injuries were said to be non-critical.
