ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in a crash Sunday night involving a car and a horse-drawn buggy. Three passengers were thrown from the buggy, including a toddler and an infant.
Around 9 p.m., a buggy carrying four people was traveling along State Road 124 near County Road 200 E in rural Monroe. According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of a car didn’t see the buggy and rear-ended it.
Passengers including a 10-month-old, 2-year-old and 24-year-old were thrown from the buggy, police said. They were all taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment, and the 30-year-old driver of the buggy had to be flown to a hospital.
Shanelle Bayes, 32, was driving the car and wasn’t injured in the crash, according to the release. Investigators said they believe alcohol was a factor in the collision.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating the crash.
