Kalamazoo brewery creating special beer to celebrate baby born in parking lot

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kalamazoo brewery is working on something special after a baby was born in its parking lot.

“By now you’ve surely heard about Forrest Wells Baker’s amazing entry into the world, so of course we had to celebrate it the best way we know – with a commemorative brew!” One Well Brewing wrote in a social media post.

Forrest was born back in August. Father Aaron Baker previously told News 8 he was teaching a fitness class when he got the call to come home. His wife, Kyle Baker, said she was feeling contractions that were far apart but was advised by a nurse to come to the hospital. They got in the car, but their plans soon changed.

“We got about five minutes down the road, and I was kind of listening to her and watching her. And I was like, ‘Man, this is this is getting bad. Like, oh gosh,’” he recalled.

Kyle Baker said the time between her contractions shortened to about a minute.

As they rushed toward the hospital, Aaron Baker saw the top of the baby’s head. He pulled into the first open parking lot in front of One Well Brewing.

“The timing was literally perfect. Like he said, he threw the car and park, ran around, opened the passenger door just in time for the head to be safely in his hands,” Kyle Baker said.

The Bakers, of Vicksburg, say they had picked out the name Forrest before the birth. They say it’s a happy coincidence that it matches the name of a seating section at One Well, the Forest. Meanwhile, the middle name Wells was chosen to remember the amazing delivery.

On Thursday, One Well Brewing — which is celebrating 10 years in business this month — welcomed the Baker family back to the brewery. They even helped out with the special beer, including some “secret additions,” One Well said.

The brewery hasn’t yet announced when the beer will be released.
