One person injured in large marina fire in Missouri, nearly 200 boats damaged

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. (NewsNation Now) — A massive fire at an eastern Missouri marina destroyed or damaged nearly 200 boats and left at least one person injured, authorities said.

The fire broke out Wednesday at the Woodland Marina along the Mississippi River in St. Charles County reported NewsNation affiliate KTVI. Firefighters were called to the marina around 2:40 p.m. (CDT) and authorities from multiple agencies contained the blaze by 7 p.m. (CDT).

A marina mechanic suffered burns, was taken to a hospital and released Wednesday night, officials said.

According to the St. Charles County Ambulance District, crews responded to the marina in the Orchard Farm area after boats, a dock, and buildings all became fully engulfed in flames. The initial call was for one boat on fire inside the boat storage facility, which quickly spread. At least two of the buildings and nearly 200 boats are all considered a complete loss.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for more than 30 miles away. About 100 firefighters were on scene to help fight the fire.
