NEW YORK (PIX11) – Less than a month after the NYPD’s interim commissioner was appointed, another major shake-up could be coming.
Interim NYPD Commissioner Tom Donlon is expected to step down, sources said Thursday. Fabien Levy, the mayor’s spokesperson, told PIX11 News that Mayor Eric Adams is interviewing multiple candidates for the police commissioner role, including Donlon.
Donlon, a former FBI official, was appointed interim NYPD commissioner following the resignation of Edward Caban in September.
Jessica Tisch, commissioner of the New York City Department of Sanitation, and Benjamin Tucker, former NYPD first deputy commissioner, are also being considered for the role, according to sources.
The potential shake-up comes after federal investigators raided Donlon’s homes just over a week after he started as interim NYPD commissioner.
“They took materials that came into my possession approximately 20 years ago and are unrelated to my work with the New York City Police Department,” Donlon said in a statement on Sept. 21.
