Small New Jersey aftershock is 47th since major earthquake

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — A small aftershock in New Jersey on Wednesday marked the 47th since a 4.8 magnitude earthquake rocked the tri-state area.

A 2.6 magnitude earthquake hit near the city of Gladstone around 10:22 a.m., according to the United States Geological Survey. Just under 80 people reported feeling the quake with very light shaking, according to the USGS.

It’s the 47th aftershock to hit the region since a larger earthquake rocked New Jersey and New York on Friday, according to an aftershock map from the USGS. The chance of an aftershock over a magnitude of three is unlikely, according to the USGS.
