(NewsNation) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recalled an organic basil brand sold exclusively at Trader Joe’s in dozens of states.
The Infinite Herbs brand of organic basil. 2.5 oz, in a clamshell-style container, has caused 12 illnesses and one hospitalization. No deaths have been reported, according to the CDC.
The potentially affected products were sold between Feb. 1 and April 6 in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georiga, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C.
The CDC recommends consumers check their homes for the product (UPC# 8 18042 02147 7), throw it away or return it, wash items and services it may have touched, and call your health care provider if they have any of these severe Salmonella symptoms:
- Fever higher than 102 degrees
- Diarrhea, in some cases bloody, for more than 3 days that is not improving
- Excessive vomiting
- Signs of dehydration
