NASCAR reveals electric vehicle prototype

NASCAR unveiled their electric vehicle prototype over the weekend

(NewsNation) — NASCAR has unveiled a new electric vehicle prototype, which could be a look into the future for racing fans.

In partnership with Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet and ABB — an electrification entity — the prototype was created with NASCAR’s commitment to “push the boundaries of electrification technology,” according to the release.

According to the Associated Press, the vehicle is worth $1.5 million and has the capacity to be a racecar due to the large wing on the rear. It isn’t set for competition anytime soon.

The all-wheel drive car has three motors, all of which are electric, capable of producing up to 1,300 horsepower, according to CNN.

For context, that is almost double that of NASCAR’s current race cars, which are fueled by gasoline.

NASCAR is also partnering with ABB wherein the pair will work toward eliminating NASCAR’s carbon footprint across core operations by 2035.
