LAS VEGAS (KGPE) – The NFL is making a push to play games outside of the United States. In mid-December, the league announced there will be a regular season game in Brazil in 2024. It continues to show the league’s worldwide growth.
With the upcoming game in South America, the NFL will have played on five different continents.
Beginning in 2025, there will now be as many as eight games played outside the U.S. each year, including a match in Madrid, Spain.
“Think of all the people who can buy memorabilia and start to participate in fantasy leagues,” said sports agent Leigh Steinberg, chairman of Steinberg Sports & Entertainment. “The revenue generated internationally…they’re doing everything they can to try to capitalize on it.”
The first NFL regular season game to be played internationally was in 2005 when the Arizona Cardinals hosted the San Francisco 49ers in Mexico City.
Since then, regular season games have been played in Mexico, England and Germany.
In the last 19 years, a total of 50 international games were played.
