(NEXSTAR) — All eyes are on Paris for the 2024 Olympics and, with the rise in popularity for women’s sports, women’s basketball will be a highly anticipated competition as the United States looks to win their eighth consecutive gold medal.

“It’s exciting. we’ve been brewing in terms of women’s sports and we feel like we like we’re at this watershed moment,” Team USA head coach Cheryl Reeve said.

Reeve took over as head coach in 2021 after serving as an assistant under the likes of Geno Auriemma and Dawn Staley.

With the college basketball season further raising the profile of homegrown talent, including Iowa star Caitlin Clark, Reeve says she’s thankful to focus on mentoring the team she is given.

“I have the easiest job. I just get to coach the talent that’s provided,” Reeve said. “The committee has the hard job. The commitment to the process is the reason why USA basketball has been so successful for so long. They do an incredible job of a balance of veterans and the middle ground and the young Olympians. We started this in February 2022, so obviously, Caitlin is on the newer side of the process.”

Reeve will be in charge of continuing the legacy of one of Team USA’s most dominant programs. In Paris, Team USA will face Germany, Japan and Belgium to begin pool play. Their opener on July 29th will be a rematch of the 2020 Gold Medal game against Japan.
