Warrant issued for Colorado man accused of stealing nearly $30K in underwear

DENVER (KDVR) — Police in Lakewood have obtained an arrest warrant for a man accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of items, primarily women’s and children’s underwear, from an apartment complex’s laundry rooms.

The suspect was identified in July after police shared photos of the alleged suspect. Several months later, there is now a national warrant issued for Hugo Salazar Hernandez, 39, on numerous counts of theft and burglary.

Hernandez is accused of stealing laundry from the Lakeview Towers apartment complex “dozens of times,” according to the Lakewood Police Department.

More than 500 items of evidence were found during a search of Hernandez’s residence, police reported. The items belonged to more than 30 victims between the ages of 6 and 69 years old. These items total in value nearly $30,000.

Police say they have been investigating Hernandez for over three years for these thefts. In July, Lakewood police told FOX31 that he is not a known resident of the complex, but took items from laundry rooms on each floor of the Lakeview Towers at Belmar Apartments, located in the 600 block of South Reed Street.

They reported he drives a black 2009 Audi A5 with no visible registration and provided a photo of the vehicle. Hernandez is described as a Hispanic male, 150 pounds and about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about Hernandez’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.
