3 dead, several inmates injured in Nevada prison fight

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Three inmates are dead and multiple were injured after a fight broke out at a Nevada prison, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at Ely State Prison in White Pine County, officials said. In addition to the three dead, nine were taken to the hospital.

NDOC said no officers were injured.

Corrections officers from other prisons in the state, along with additional law enforcement agencies, were responding to the maximum-security prison Tuesday afternoon.

NewsNation affiliate KLAS has learned there are concerns about retaliation as this appeared to be a feud between two rival gangs.

As of Tuesday evening, the prison remained on lockdown. Ely State Prison is also the location of Nevada’s “death row.”
