A group of people were detained by law enforcement on the third floor of a parking garage on the campus of UCLA Monday morning.
Information regarding why the individuals were detained was not immediately released; however, NewsNation affiliate KTLA observed several people sitting on the ground with their hands zip-tied behind their backs and surrounded by police.
At least two of the individuals were wearing matching lime green hats. It was unknown if those detained were students or if they were part of an organized protest.
A student-led group had called for a sit-in at Moore Hall on Instagram to begin at 7 a.m., but the hall was closed an hour later and Monday classes there are now virtual, the school said. Students are advised to avoid the area of Royce Quad.
By 9 a.m., authorities had moved the detained students to a different part of the parking structure and were not letting anyone speak to them.
Monday’s incident comes less than a week after law enforcement dismantled a pro-Palestinian protest encampment from Royce Quad and arrested dozens of activists.
This is a developing story. Stay with KTLA for updates.
