Man charged with death of 3-month-old infant in Texas

CONROE, Texas (KIAH) — Authorities in Montgomery County have charged a man in connection to the death of a 3-month-old child last month.

Melvin Enriquez (Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office)

Melvin Jesus Aquino Enriquez was charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury following an investigation that started in April 14, when a severely injured 3-month-old child was admitted to a local hospital. Enriquez was already booked in the Montgomery County Jail on a related charge.

That started the investigation, which led them to a home in the 25000 block of Needham Road in Porter, where investigators identified Enriquez as the suspect. He lived with the infant and the mother in the home, and investigators discovered that Enriquez had committed some sort of assault by strangulation and was arrested and placed into custody.

Three days later, detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office charged Enriquez with the death of the baby.

On April 21, the infant was declared dead at the hospital. The MCSO Special Victims Unit is waiting on autopsy results to determine the death of the child and if more charges will be filed.

Enriquez is held on a $750,000 bond and is on an ICE hold due to his immigration status, deputies said.
