Free vasectomies, abortion pills: Planned Parenthood’s mobile health clinic is gearing up to give out more than party favors at the DNC this week. Planned Parenthood Great Rivers shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, that its van will be parked in the city’s West Loop — mere minutes from the DNC’s venue, the United Center — to provide free vasectomies and abortion medication Monday and Tuesday. Protests: Thousands of activists are expected to gather in downtown Chicago this week during the DNC. Organizers expect 20,000 people to gather Monday afternoon to demonstrate their feelings on issues like the Israel-Hamas war, abortion, LGBTQ+ rights and many other causes. Full report >
Sunday protests: The week of protests started Sunday evening, as about 1,000 people marched along South Michigan Avenue near Grant Park in Chicago. Police lined the march route and there were no signs of major conflict. Impeachment report: House Republicans have released their initial impeachment inquiry report into President Joe Biden, accusing him of abuse of power and obstruction of justice in the financial dealings of his son Hunter Biden and other family associates. Details >

Guilty plea: Former Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., has agreed to plead guilty after being accused of multiple criminal schemes, a person with knowledge of the matter told The Hill. The plea deal enables Santos to avoid trial next month on 23 criminal charges that could’ve carried significant prison time, if convicted. The source said Santos will plead guilty to multiple of those counts. The judge overseeing the case will have to accept the deal, and a hearing is scheduled for Monday afternoon. Full report >
Allegations: Federal prosecutors accused the former congressman of five criminal schemes: misleading campaign donors, charging their credit cards without authorization, falsely inflating campaign finance reports, fraudulently receiving unemployment benefits and lying on his financial disclosures. Santos saga: The controversy surrounding Santos started after he was elected in 2022. Before he was sworn into office, The New York Times published a bombshell report that the New York Republican had fabricated his resume and biography. The drama reached a boiling point when he was ousted from Congress after the House Ethics Committee issued a damning report saying he deceived donors, stole from his campaign and used funds for personal use. Hurricane: Tropical Storm Ernesto strengthened into a hurricane again Sunday as it headed further out in the northeastern Atlantic, sending powerful swells toward the U.S. East Coast. The National Weather Service warned of a high risk for rip currents along the Atlantic Coast through Monday night, saying the currents “can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore.” Read more >

Online orders: Shoppers are turning to buying groceries online as a way to save money, driven by aggressive promotions from major players like Instacart, Amazon and Walmart, according to a new report by Consumer Affairs.
