Your Morning: No suspect yet in Springfield, Ohio, bomb threats

Springfield: The Springfield, Ohio, community is on edge Friday morning after a bomb threat was called into city hall and two elementary schools Thursday. The city has been dragged into the national spotlight this week over unsubstantiated claims that Haitian migrants are eating pets — claims the city’s mayor and police say they can’t substantiate. Some residents have pushed back on the claims but insisted their city is at a breaking point due to the influx of migrants. Springfield ‘still beautiful’: Springfield Mayor Rob Rue told NewsNation’s “CUOMO” his city is “still beautiful” and pets are still safe despite the dog-eating conspiracy theories amplified by former President Donald Trump at Tuesday’s presidential debate. “What this has done is created a negative light that we did not look for, that we did not ask for,” Rue said. “These claims are just untrue.” Watch the interview >

Boeing strike: Aircraft assembly workers at Boeing factories near Seattle and elsewhere walked off the job early Friday morning. The move comes after union members voted overwhelmingly to go on strike and turn down a tentative contract that would have raised wages by 25% over four years. The strike started less than three hours after the local branch of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers announced 94.6% of voting workers rejected the proposed contract and 96% approved the work stoppage. 2024 election: More than 405,000 visitors have flocked to vote.gov by way of pop superstar Taylor Swift’s postdebate endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, according to the General Services Administration. The 14-time Grammy winner issued her support for Harris minutes after the showdown between Harris and former President Donald Trump and posted a custom voter registration link to her 283 million Instagram followers. Idaho college killings: The trial for Kohberger is expected to start next June. He faces four murder charges in connection with the November 2022 stabbing deaths of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves in their off-campus home in Moscow. Investigation: The owner of the property where three Kansas City Chiefs fans were found dead in January won’t face criminal charges and charges will be filed against others in the case within the next few weeks, his attorney told NewsNation, but prosecutors haven’t confirmed those claims. Social Security: The next cost-of-living increase for Social Security recipients — which was already projected to be the lowest in years — is continuing to drop, according to the latest figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Based on the department’s consumer price index data through August, Social Security recipients might expect a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment to their payments next year, according to The Senior Citizens League.
