WESLACO, Tex. (NewsNation) — Police warned the public to stay away from a south Texas Walmart after a man armed with an assault style rifle and handgun shot at officers.
No victims were injured in the incident, but police say the man is dead after officers shot back at him.
21 officers responded to the call of a man armed with a rifle dressed in black and evacuated the store, just minutes after the initial call to 911. Police say the man may have been involved in some sort of verbal altercation with another customer prior to the officers responding, and pointed one of the guns at the customer.
Texas Rangers will be investigating the officer-involved shooting. The identity of the gunman has not been released, pending notification of his family.
