Fire on South San Francisco’s sign hill contained, evacuations underway
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (NewsNation Now) — Crews contained a 4-alarm fire on Sign Hill in South San Francisco Friday. Smoke could be seen coming from the popular sign on the hill near San Francisco International Airport.
Another fire is burning in South San Francisco Friday afternoon, according to NewsNation affiliate KRON.
The South San Francisco City Manager said the fire is a 3-alarm fire at an industrial building at 179 Starlite St.
Officials say this is unrelated to the previous fire that was burning on Sign Hill.
“Safety is our number one priority. Please help us keep everyone safe by keeping your drones away from this incident,” said South San Francisco Fire Chief Jess Magallanes.
Mandatory evacuations are underway for:
- Carnelian Road
- Sonja Road
- Mountain Road
- Ridgeview Court
- Viewmont Terrance
A temporary evacuation center is set up at the Municipal Services Building, 33 Arroyo Drive.
