SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (NewsNation Now) — Snow fell this weekend in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and meteorologists forecast even more cold air is on the way.

This weekend, Sioux Falls experienced its snowiest October since 2002. It is the latest shot of winter weather that has gripped the upper Midwest.

The Dakotas are about five to 15 degrees below normal for this time of year, which is why much of the Midwest has also had early season snow. Sioux Falls has already had about four inches of snow this weekend, while parts of western South Dakota have had over a foot.

Record or near-record cold temperatures are forecasted for Sioux Falls for next week including below normal temperatures through Halloween.

While the Midwest will be colder than normal in the week ahead, it does look like temperatures will recover to above-average warmth for the first full week of November.
